Inaugurated in April 2006, the Museum of the Island of Oléron offers a synthesis of the history and inhabitants of Oléron, and makes an excellent introduction to exploring the island.
In this 600 square metre space, various themes are featured such as : wine making, resin harvesting, salt production, fishing, oyster farming, traditional costumes, local houses…
Plunge into the soundscapes with recordings of people who used to live on the island, interactive technologies, and films, all adding up to a dynamic museum experience.
The museum is accessible for all ages.
Hours:
July-August: daily from 10 a.m to 7 p.m.
April, May, June, September, October: daily from 10 a.m to 12 p.m and 12 p.m to 6 p.m.
February, March, November, 1st to 15th December: Tuesday to Sunday from 2 p.m to 6 p.m.
16th December to 31th January : closed

Any public guided tours
Guided tours of the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions are offered for groups throughout the year, for adults or young people. The lenght of the visit and its contents can be changed, according to the type of audience and peoples’ expectations.

A tactile, olfactory and auditory tour of the museum’s collections is available for people with visual impairment.

The Educational activities for young people
Activities combine a visit and a activity for technical and artistic practice, where youngsters can discover the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions in a playful way. The activities are proposed for individual during the school holidays. Price: € 5.50 per child. Reservation on 05 46 75 05 16.
Activities are also available for groups of children (school, holiday resorts, etc.) throughout the year, by appointment.
